Neighbors Dogs Advise

That is ok, I see your point. I meant that if you call Animal services, and you tell them who the owner is and where they live, the dogs are not considered stray. They usually will not even pick them up. They are considered a nuisance if they keep getting into your yard. You could of course call and leave out the part about the owner, then they may come pick them up as stray. At least here, but again each place is different.

The dogs are the responsibility of the owner. Any damage they do the owner is responsible for. He's also responsible for keeping them ON HIS PROPERTY. Just cuz it's the country doesn't mean what's yours is there for the joy of his dogs. It's called livestock harassment and damage to property. Hopefully you have good animal control, but folks around here have been known to disappear problem dogs - especially when they start forming packs because a dog pack is a dangerous thing.

A fence would not be a option right now. We already have 1 but it's for our dog and pool area, I keep chickens out of that area bc of plants and dog... I guess what we will do it build a bigger run area...... Were home on the weekends and mostly home bf dark during the week so they can free range while were we are there.... Luckily my DH sprayed yard last week so they've had to stay in run this week......my whole plan was for them to free range, I love when I ride by someone's house and they have chickens free ranging, but I did learn a hard lesson in doing so.....I think the owner should be shot in the butt with "birdshot" Haha!!

You're lucky he gave you the go-ahead to shoot em! Usually these situations are try to kill em and hope the owner doesn't find out, animal control does nothing, complaining does nothing, don't wanna pay arm and a leg to fence in your animals, etc. Maybe just shoot em with a pellet gun instead and move up the caliber ladder if that doesn't work

Wow that'd be nice. Seems like every time these things come up AC does nothing for one reason or another. Might make the neighbor mad, though. You gotta protect your birds and he's at fault so whatever you need to do. Had neighbors 2 cockfighting roosters kill my rooster and mess with my hens, eat their feed, etc... Shot one (non-fatal) and roughed up the other one. They stay where they should now but took a while.

I'm not sure how true that is, but my gf does dog rescue and said to call them.... I'm sure it will make him mad!! lol. I'm sorry about your Roo.. That's awful ... Glad they haven't come back...

I hope it's not true, also, it's just what I seem to hear every time a situation like this happens. Yeah he was a dang good rooster. The neighbors don't have any hens just the 2 roos.

I don't know how your town deals with dogs, and how your animal control officer is, but in my town, if a dog is unlicensed, there is a stiff fine. I'm betting that this bozo does not have his dogs licensed. If a nuisance dog is reported, the owner gets one warning, depending on the situation, then, the dog is impounded, and there are some stiff penalties. About 25 years ago, the penalty was $75. I bet it's more now. I wouldn't care if the neighbor got mad. I'd call the ACO and file a complaint right away, and not even wait for the dogs to come back. This idiot may wise up if he is hit in the wallet. If I had to resort to shooting, I'd shoot to kill. I love dogs, but a dog at large who is killing livestock is a PREDATOR.
