Does anyone know what I need to do about our neighbors two labs came into our yard and killed all 22 chickens and my granddaughters 2 ducks. I now have no egg layers I lost incom on selling my eggs. My roosters were tame and very friendly including my Rhode Island Red rooster. I have been crying all morning and I’m at a loss as how I ask them to replace my chickens but with chickens that will start laying soon. Any suggestions?

I'm sorry for your loss, and I agree with the other's that your neighbors won't do anything about it. If you get more hens the dog's will be back for those too. One of my neighbors had the same thing happen to them last year. All of the free-ranging hens and chicks were killed. There were 2 roosters that survived though, because they had been cooped up.

I had that happen once.
I went calmly to my neighbor told them what happened and presented a bill for each chicken. I calculated cost of chick plus cost of 2 bags of feed each chicken I charged 27.00 I handed him the bill and he did pay in full. I have not seen those dogs in my yard again.

Good luck to you. I am sorry for your loss.

I know it sucks but if you still can, you MUST take pictures. And you will want to add loss of income too. Get cash you want to replace your own flock!
:hugs

I would call animal control/police department. They will advise you the next steps. I would wait for them before approaching the neighbor so you have a witness and mediator. I am sorry for your loss. I hope your neighbor is reasonable. You never know quite how a neighbor will react. I hope he/she is the type that wants to make it right.

That $27 hardly makes up for the time and care you put into your chickens, not to mention emotional investment in them!
