Neighbors hen hiding eggs in yard

Quote:
It`s good that she accepts the new nest. She may lay from 8-15 eggs before she sets. Not a bad idea to remove them at night. You could put 3 or 4 golf balls or fake eggs in the nest and collect her fresh ones each time she lays. Store them in a cool place inside your house until she gets broody and then replace the fake eggs with the good ones at night, so you don`t stress her. make sure her nest is ground level so the chicks can leave and enter the nest easily. Is her owner aware of your adoption?.........Pop

Just an observation...
Does your neighbor know that her hen is laying in your yard? From your post, it sounds as if you plan on keeping this hen to brood. If your neighbor doesn't know this, you could be accused of stealing the hen and her eggs (as the hen, the eggs and any resulting chicks would rightfully belong to your neighbor).
Am I misunderstanding? Or does your neighbor know of your plans?

I will go ask the neighbors about the hen. I was keeping here penned up for her safety from dogs and the neighbors on the other side of us. I have seen them let their dog chase the chickens on my yard, even before I asked for the roo. I don't know if her flock has kicked her out since she spends her days here because we have found her sleeping in a tree. I know she isn't mine, I was just trying to keep her safe and wondering why she was hiding eggs.
