Hiya,
I have two hens which found us rather than us getting them! But we all love them to pieces and we have had Elsa for 5 weeks ish and Dotty for 4 weeks. Next door have three dogs but the owners are very responsible and easy to talk too. Their dogs are out in the garden pretty much the entire day and when I'm home I let the chickens free range but I was waiting to see if anyone claimed the chickens before we had their wings clipped. I would hate for one to fly over the fence but then I'm thinking the fence is 5ft all around and if wing clipping would be necessary, opinions please. Also if they have their wings clipped could they still get up like a really large step which goes onto our patio etc.
I love to know what people think.

I'm assuming since you found them, you don't know what breed they are or they could be mixes. They birds' temperament and anatomy play a big role here. :)

Are they large or small (bantam) chickens? Heavy breeds usually can't/won't fly high, bantams can easily reach 7 ft fences.
How big is your yard? If there's enough to do and forage, they're not likely to jump over even if they can.

I don't know what height you mean with regards to a really high step, but chickens can still jump to a decent height with a wing clipped.

Are the dogs outside a lot? Seeing the dogs, especially if the dogs are agressive/playful towards, might deter them by itself. ;)

I wasn't sure what breeds they were but I did post on here when they arrived and we were told possibly a light Sussex and also a cuckoo maran and age wise possibly a pullet from what I've heard.

The dogs are outside majority of the day and they aren't aggressive but you wouldn't trust them with chickens!

Our garden is roughly 20meter by 10. And three quarters of the garden is grass lawn.
