Hey y'all. Somebody threw something at my Grandma's pet rooster and now he's not using his leg. He uses his upper leg, but there is no reflex in his lower leg or toes. We haven't been able to find anything broken and my vet said it could be nerve damage. I've read nerve damage can heal (at least somewhat) with time. Do any of you have experience with it, and also, do you know if there's anything that can speed up the healing process? Thank you!

Can you get a video of how he moves or photos of him?
For video, upload to YouTube and provide a link.

Did the vet examine him? If so, was there an X Ray?
Did the vet suggest splinting the leg, any other treatment?

Any swelling of the leg or joint?

There's no way to know for sure if nerve damage will heal or how much, if any use of the leg he may regain.

You can offer him supportive care through Vitamins. Give him 400IU Vitamin E daily along with 1/2 tablet B-Complex. Give a small amount egg, tuna or sunflower seeds daily to help with the uptake of E. See that he's eating his normal feed and drinking well.

You can find the vitamins in the vitamin section of WalMart, CVS, Walgreens, etc. Just pop the pills into his beak one at a time letting him swallow in between each one.

I may be able to get pictures later on but I'm not at my Grandma's right now. I texted the vet and explained the symptoms, and he just diagnosed the rooster over the phone. He told me there's really nothing I can do except let the rooster rest and that it may take months to heal. I haven't noticed any swelling.

Oh, I see.
I'd try giving the vitamins as supportive care and see if those help.
