Nervous about the smell coop again this summer.

Here's the bad pics I took. I was thinking, after I reposition the tops for the nesting box and other station, I can cut out an area on that plywood on both size for cross ventilation. The screen door is about 8 square feet, and the back window is probably 6 square feet, and also add the ventilation coming through the top of the coop.

I know tin isn't great but it's all I can have for a top at the moment. Any advice for the smell would help, if it's related to something else, I probably already know it needs to be fixed so let's stay on topic pls

That's what I'm considering. I like the deep bedding though :(

Without deep litter how often should I clean it? And I imagine it would be expensive
Yes it can be expensive. I clean my coop once a week, but you could clean yours every 2 weeks. You can also scoop the poop under the roosts every day, and then replace the litter monthly.

Consider a poop board. Then all you have to do is clean that every day or so. That will keep down the smell. But, I do not use a poop board personally. And I use the deep bedding method. Only clean my coop twice a year and it does not smell. I also only have 6 chickens and will not be adding more. Maybe the leftovers you feed them are getting moldy? They might not eat all of it and it can sit there and stink. Try stopping that and see if the smell clears up

I don't really need a poop board because all the poop is either on the roost or directly below and takes 5 mins to clean up. Also, the scraps were thrown far away from the coop last summer because they free ranged.

I just don't understand the smell 😭😭😭
