we I am not new to the chick forum but I lost my other user name and password when we moved.....that is beside the point.......

I have 12 hens in my back yard and 22 days ago I started my first venture of hatching my own eggs!!!!

I was REALLY nervous yesterday as they were supposed to HATCH....DAY 21 RIGHT.......NOPPE......mine waited till late last night and just one bearly pipped the shell......so I have 18 in there.....16 I candled and are viable.....

I woke this morning....and there were 4 pips......then before lunch...6....now there is 8.......

I am doing all that I can to not jump in and help as I am so eager to see my new lil babies......one even pecked out two lil holes that look like eyes......Im so excited I could just burst......so now I am cleaning my house trying to stay away from the bator.......AAAGGGGGGGGGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRHHHHHHHHHHHH

Congratulations! Now go treat yourself to something nice...far far away. ;)

It can be really tough to keep away from that bator! Just DON'T try and help! Helping too soon is a very bad thing! It can take them a whole day or sometimes more to be ready. It can be awful on the nerves .

yeah.....im on the edge......Ive cleaned my house.....cleand my big chicken coop.....now getting ready to clean the duck coop just to stay busy.......and the babies just keep calling me........

one has almost opened one side completely!!!

I'm right there with you. Mine weren't suppose to hatch until Wed., but last night they started. I've got 6 out of 18 guineas hatched and 2 out of 11 chicks so far. A third one is piped as well. Thank Heavens I have my granddaughter her, 1 year old, to keep me busy so I don't park next to the incubator for the next 3 days!

HIP HIP HORRAY!!!!! I have a winner winner.......so far one is out and 2 more half zipped!!!!!! (its gonnna be a LONG NIGHT!!!)

Yayy!im on day 20 just checked the eggs and all 7 have internally pipped! How much longer will I have to wait? So exciting!!

alrigghty...................I have 7 out and 3 more to go that have pipped and almost unzipped........but now I have a question........I was told that the rooster had nothing to do with the breed of the chicken.....I have 12 RIR and 2 Buff Orph..........now I have 2 yellow babies....and 5 blackish red babies........my rooster is an americauna.......so what are my babies...?

Congratulations! Whoever told you that the rooster has 'nothing' to do with the 'breed' of your chickens needs to take a basic reproduction class. Chicken reproduction is not virgin birth. Your chicks are Easter Egger crossbreds.

Yep, exactly!!!!

In fact, you could probably actually call all of your babies "easter eggers", since EE is a catch all term for birds that have ameraucana genes in them but aren't purebred, and/or live up to the ameraucana breeding standards.

I'm so excited your babies are coming out so healthy! Can't wait to see pictures.
