nervous.... on day 14!!!

I am still new with quail. I am getting geared up to incubate our eggs and I hear a lot of questions in your discussions. For instance with a hovabator, how is the humidity regulated. I have not really studied the machine much, but even so someone else's experience is likely more informative. When humidity drops, how is it corrected? Lockdown??? There will be more questions I am sure. Thanks for any info.

Me too. On day 14 and the ONLY time that happened. I candled a few right after that and just before lock down and saw movement, so I am optimistic. Then right after lockdown the humidity zoomed to 80%. It's back down to around 70 now. Hoping for the best. Saturday is day 17.

Well it's day 16 and nothing yet no peeps or anything but I'm not calling it a total fail yet there's still time, so hopefully some of them hatch!!

p.james, The hovabator has 2 canals for water. If you keep the longer one filled, it will give about 50% humidity. The shorter canal is filled when you 'lock em down' three days before the scheduled hatch. That brings the humidity up to around 70%, which hepls the little peepers hatch out. I have a $12. digital temp guage that reads the humidity, and it has been right on with the humidity levels. Lock down is just when you stop turning the eggs three days before the hatch date. You just keep the lid on and don't change anything.

Chickenman...how do you see anything in your eggs? I have corturnix, and the light doesn't seem to penetrate through the speckled shell. I've resigned myself the wait and see.
