Nervous...Want to make nice with neighbors and weird laws

Just an update...I saw my neighbor outside while I was holding my Buff laced Polish...she approached her fence with a toy for my ds who was out with us and we all went over to accept the gift and chat. We talked about her garadnchildren, her mil and then she asked about the bird I was holding...I told her we had a couple of birds as pets and for fresh eggs and that we would love to bring her some as soon as we gathered a few. She said that would be nice and watched ds pet the Polish a few times...

She did ask if it crowed and I assured her that it didn't. Oddly enough she mentioned the one she keeps hearing on our mountain and said that it sounded nice to her (although she supposed it could get annoying if it were happening all day long)

So...I think things have gone pretty well so far. I'm hoping these chickens start laying better soon enough so that we can bring her some!

I live in NY City where all chickens are prohibited. My backyard neighbor adamantly hates me because I killed a tree she liked that was shading my entire garden. We haven't spoken for years. Two years ago I found two tiny chicks and put them on my lawn. I recieved a letter from the City ordering me to get rid of them within a week. I gave them away.

This year I was offered the chance to adopt a mother and baby silky hen. I said yes, then wrote every neighbpor on every side a letter describing the circumstances under which they were found ( wandering in the road) - why the local chicken shelter couldn't take them ( they were too small and too shy and wouldn't eat) and named them ( Friendly and Furry). I immediately got positive responses from almost everybody thanking me for the letter and asking about Friendly and Furry. No calls were made to the City. Even the nasty lady next door had no response - at least so far.

On the coop. it is not a coop.. It is a garden shed that the dern birds just over took. See I qot shovels and rakes and even a wheelbarrow that they keep laying eggs in. I cant keep em out!!
