Nervous!

Hi! One of my silkie eggs has been wiggling for over 24 hours. It is now day 19. Should I be worried or is it normal that the egg has been moving for so long?

Chicks sometimes take a long time to hatch. If it is only day 19 I wouldn't be too worried. Just make sure the humidity and temperature are both right and wait. If the you can hear the chick peeping then that means they are internally pipping. If it was 24 hours since you first heard peeping that'd be a little more troublesome. Hatching chicks can be very stressful with all of the waiting, but it's worth it in the end. Best of luck!

I haven't heard any noise from the chick, just slight movement of the egg. My temperature is stable and my humidity can't really be changed because I have an r-com mini which is probably my only worry. I placed a damp towel under the incubator which is supposed to help with humidity. Thanks fo your reply!

It sounds like the little chick is fine just very active, I guess. Rcoms are pretty good with humidity monitoring so you probably don't even need the towel. It seems like you'll have a sweet little silkie baby within the next day or so. If there is an emergency try posting on the silkie thread (in addition to the emergency forum), a lot of experienced chicken hatchers are on there. Good luck with your hatch.
