Nest Box Dimensions

I'm surprised so many people wouldn't bother with insulation and use straw instead.
It's the difference between driving a porsche and a Fiat Punto.
Insulation keeps the cold out in winter and keeps the heat out in summer. Place the box in the shade so it can't overheat in summer.

To insulate that spot would cost $3, to replace the hay to achieve the same would cost $30 per year. They wouldn't scratch at it as it would be covered in a board of wood as was mentioned!?

I mean cmon if someone asks how to build a modern house, you don't say use some branches and some hay....

I know chickens are not as fussy as humans but when it comes to good planning whether you are building a human house a or a chicken house the principles of physics and insulation are the same.

Insulation is I believe the cheapest it will ever be in human history too, it has become cheaper than wood!

To recommend not to use insulation (just the one board on the floor) would be to recommend someone drive a Fiat instead of a porsche

Each to their own.

One more word of wisdom as insulation seems to be misunderstood and represented as the boogie man it seems - your fridge is the most insulated device in your house. The insulation in Fridges is phenomenal. Not to keep the inside warm... No to keep the inside cold. Why not just build a fridge without insulation then, surely it would be far cheaper. It would be yes but instead of having an energy rating of A and use $30 in electrcity per year it would have a rating of F and use $300 per year to maintain the same temperature.
