Nest box ideas

My two turkey hens are nearing the age where they will begin to lay eggs. They currently sleep in a large pen and they have their own tall perch that they roost on. However i currently only have next boxes for my chickens and my turkeys are far too big for them. I was thinking of maybe using a car tyre. Any suggestions? Thanks

The simplest turkey nest is to lean a pallet or wide boards against a wall.

I use 55 gallon plastic drums, cut a hole in one end, make sure they are clean and fill with pine shavings or straw the hen turkeys will do the rest.

I always planned on that except my plan was to cut the entry hole in the middle so it would be easier to reach everywhere in the barrel.

I cut it in the end to keep the rain out. I try to use colored barrels as the non-colored ones tend to photo degrade faster. The turkey hens seem to really like them as they can get in the back and hide. I have fashioned a tool to gather the eggs so I don't have to crawl into the back of the barrel, age and my back have made me learn to work smarter, not harder!

My plan was to only cut the opening on 3 sides and fold it up like an awning. I also was going to drill drain holes in the bottom side.

Rain isn't much of an issue here.

Here in S.E. Oklahoma we can get up to 60 inches of rain in a year, generally by this time of year I am slogging around in ankle deep mud to feed each day so, I am thankful that it is a little dry this fall. The birds are appreciating it as well!
Where you are at your plan would work well.
My hens will begin to lay in January here, when do yours start?
