Nest box size.....worried NO MORE (funny pix)

In my most most recent coop, I built the nest boxes from 1" x 12" solid pine boards, and built it vertically as opposed to horizontally to save some floor space in the coop. The "set" of boxes is four sections high and the interior dimensions are about 11 1/2" x 11 1/2" x 14" high.

I put this in my BBS rock pen and was initially concerned that the boxes might be a tad small for some of my larger hens.

Well.....no more worries. I've caught this pair (Maude and Kiki) more than once just like this....had to share

That's the order of the day around here lately. I caught three hens in one of mine the other day. Silly women. There are nine nestboxes in that main coop and they like three of them.

Scott, I had considered using the same boards but wasn't sure that they would be large enough, but I guess your girls proved us all wrong! I think I may just go ahead with them after seeing your pic of two big ole hens sharing a nest box. Thanks for posting the pic!

Yep, and the fighing for the best "box" goes on.....

I have to remove ALL my shavings from the chicken barn. They kept finding the open ones and these two were always on them.
