Hi all, I have a peahen living with my chickens and she's 2 years old so hopefully she'll lay in April onwards. I have a peafowl coop in the making it's nearly finished but won't be before she layes as our cows will be calving. Do ye have any ideas or pics of nestboxes,
Thanks

boxes.

They look great, can a peahen hatch in her first year of laying?

My two didn't even try until their third year and then they didn't succeed. They tried again and were successful the year after that. I don't know how normal that is but I wasn't in a hurry so I didn't really think about it.

That was in 2021. Their peachicks are now grown and started laying themselves last year but not consistently. It will be interesting to see what they do this year.

What year was your peahen hatched?

Edit: I just read in your other thread that she hatched in 2022. So she'd be another year behind my young hens.

I'll leave her eggs and see if she goes broody, I will buy eggs as I have no adult peacock yet

KsKingBee,

Are those 10 frame boxes? Deeps or mediums? I hope to have 2 that will start laying this year.

Thank you!!!

John
I have used both but the mediums are better for the chicks to hop back in. The deeps are a little high for a newly hatched chick unless you put bricks around the box.
