The door is actually a regular metal-over-wood regular house door. So drilling through and using big fender washers and such would be strong enough to hold my plastic nest boxes, I would hope.

It would be good to post come pics of your coop and the door and nests.Otherwise, I'm thinking about drilling 6" holes in the wall behind each nest, so as to be able to remove eggs without going inside the coop. I thought about lining the holes with PVC to prevent slivers, etc. when reaching through. The plastic nest boxes have rear access when hung on the wall (or door).

My husband and I decided to finally start our chicken house/garden shed. Unfortunately, he died in January, so I am going to try and find someone to help me finish this. The inside is finished with painted OSB and peg board (inside the garden area only). I am currently trying to get my neighbor, who has a workshop, to make some louvers for the windows, so the roost does not have direct wind blowing in on the chickens. I will post more pics as I go along....slow now, and with a heavier heart.
