nest boxes on the floor?

Mine are about 4 inches off the floor and they like it that way I tried to get them higher and they wouldn't lay in them ones.
The only time I ever get coop floor eggs is when all the nest boxes have hens in them already... So I don't think it matters to them as long as they can get into it and lay they are happy but when they are setting I have the nest boxes in the mom to be area and those are on the floor mainly because of the chicks.

Thank you all for the info & sharing your experience! I thin for now we'll just see how it goes. The girls still haven't started laying so I'll see how it goes and how the egg collecting goes and make changes if needed.
