Just a touch smaller than i would have built them, BUt my hens seem to like the small closed , private spaces to lay. So these should work just fine!

I have noticed that their faces are getting redder and one or two of them have combs getting a bit larger & wattles on two are coming in. They were hatched on 4/28, 5/1, and 5/19. 3 are Orp/Del crosses and 3 are Orp/EE crosses. My hens are not tame, ie won't let me pick them up. Will they still do the "rooster squat" eventhough they run from me if I try to pick them up? They come to me when I have treats and they like to be close to me but don't like me to touch them. Oh, yeah, I don't have a roo.

The size is fine. They'll have plenty of room.

One of yours makes two of mine. Too big makes for two chickens in nest box.

Most of mine didn't like me picking them up, but a couple of weeks before starting to lay, the would 'squat' and let me pet them. It's funny to see them do it the first time, but it's a sure sign they are getting close...

I love the nest boxes! Mine are so much smaller.I have used egg crates,buckets,and a wicker laundry basket.

My 3 older hens squatted before egg laying.It sure makes catching them easy.My teens are 16 weeks and not squatting,but they are going red.
