DH is building a hoop coop for our guineas. I was wondering if they would use nest boxes that are raised a few feet off the ground, like a chicken would, or do they only nest on the ground?

Thanks..

Pam

OOOhh I would like to know as well, I have1 guinea egg in the bator and 3 buinea chicks I picked up this afternoon - gotta be prepared! Kudos - that is a question I had not even thought of yet!

A few weeks ago I was at a farm to buy guinea eggs and saw a half bushel basket hanging about 4 feet high on the wall of the tractor barn and it had a guinea sitting on a clutch of eggs down inside it so I don't know why they wouldn't use a nest box.

Ours chose the corner floor of the chicken coop instead of the nests just above them. The nests they rejected are about 18" off the ground.

So, my experience is that they like the floor...I guess everybody's guineas are different.

Good luck, ours just hatched 3 keets yesterday, our first babies ever born "on the farm".
