do I want nest boxes low so my scovie duck girls will use them for their babies( they get to raise their own babies)
or higher with one or two on the floor level? The entire coop is up off the ground fyi- I am talking about the boxes inside the coop for laying eggs in
I was going to do a set of three

My mallards like nest boxes that are up off the ground. I have a couple of heavy wooden crates (turned on their sides, with a short board across the front to keep the straw inside) that are sitting on top of cinder blocks. So maybe 24 inches off the floor, inside a metal building. They've hatched multiple broods in there, so they must like them.

The silly birds have also made nests in the burn pile, which wasn't too smart. Some I was able to salvage for the incubator, but the rest either cooked in the sun (literally!), or were eaten by predators.
