We have a duck laying on a nest and the eggs are due to hatch any day. About a week ago I came out to check on our birds and noticed she moved her nest a couple feet away and there was an egg left on the ground. Is this normal? Is the egg rotten and she can tell? Seems like a lot of work to move literally her entire nest over. Then the next day I noticed our other sitting duck did the same thing, but did not leave an egg behind.

I tried to include a picture of how far she moved her nest from the egg.

They will sometimes roll eggs to a location close by. I would agree the egg is probably bad. They can feel if an egg is alive, and I'm sure they can smell if they are bad.
