Nest Type

My runners a just 2 months but I'm preparing to build/buy a couple nests. I'd love for them to lay in their house. Is a shallow box of sorts adequate? Does it need a top? What do you use?

We did well with a couple of large wooden cheese boxes (they are round) for a while, but then the ducks decided to make their own nests, so I make sure they have some nice straw, especially near corners.

I use nests made out of cut-up plastic feed bins:



Most of mine like the enclosed nests, especially is they are feeling a bit broody. But some ducks just lay in the corner, like Amiga said hers do. And some make sneaky nests in the yard, naughty girls

They don't need anything fancy, really. A shallow box on the ground would be fine.
