Nesting area seperate from Coop?

kuntrygirl, I would suggest leaving the food & water outside so that the broody hens have to get up and exercise their legs during the day & so they will get out and go potty too. If they have access to food/water next to the nest then they have almost no reason to get up and it can cause lameness because the aren't using their legs much. I do go and hand feed my broody girls treats but they have to get out of their box and go up/down the ramp and out to the food and water so they get plenty of exercise and time to go potty. I also keep my food & water(pools) on opposite sides of the run so when i do have to lock everyone up they all have to go back and forth to eat and drink... That way they aren't just plopped down and not moving around much when they have to be stuck in there.
