I always think of that egg-honking as:
"Hey, if any of you predators are thinkin' about my eggs, you better back off 'cause I'm coming right back!"

Yea they make a racket just inviting wild things , that is the time i make rounds with the dogs the most, rainy days are our only days off unless they are laying and nesting.
I been having 2 honking up in the loft of the barn the last week, i need to get up there and check for eggs.
