I recently purchased the mini-coop plans and am finding a few missing pieces of info. Does anyone know whether the frames for the nesting boxes are built with 1 X 4's? It looks like the plans call for a 2 1/2" board but the 1 X 4 measures 3 1/2"??

For small framing there's no reason not to use 2x2's (nominal size being 1.5"x1.5"). On a side note: all smooth surfaced lumber is 1/2 inch less than sized due to planning. 2x2's or even 2x3's are very cheap and much lighter weight than 2x4 framing. Structurally speaking, a small chicken coop does'nt need to be fort knox, just need something to screw the sheathing to.

Also if you have some spare 2x4's laying around you could take your circular saw and rip them lengthwise down the middle and end up with 2 1x2's roughly.

Thanks for the info....I was trying to learn "ChickenDIYguides.com"
intent before are started improvising.
