Nesting Box ideas?

anyone have any nesting box ideas? oh and where can i find some egg cartons? ha

I have heard of using covered cat litter boxes.

haha. i only got one and my cat would be mad if i used it for the chickens.

I bought a covered litter box especially for the chickens. The hens love it and use it more than any of their other nestboxes.
ETA: Egg cartons can be purchased from eggcartons.com or do what I did. Ask friends and co-workers to save theirs for you. I'm overloaded with cartons now.

They seem to prefer it because it's enclosed and darker inside. They like a dark secluded place to lay.​

5 gallon buckets on their side.
The cheapest eggs cartons for me are free ones from friends or buying them at the feedstore.

I use these. The can stack. But I put them side by side. I have 4 for 13 hens, but they only use 2.



Ps. I got them at Lowe's for less than $8.00. each.

I had 2 of the large size litter boxes but my cat got too big for them. [ended up using a very large rubbermaid tote for the litterbox] I wish I had read about using the litter boxes for nesting boxes before we built some.
