Our pullet/s (18 weeks) have just started laying. Both eggs were laid on the poopboard. The nesting boxes are ready with golfballs inside. Do you all think I should leave the "lid" up? It's hindged at the top or should I leave it as is?

I had big plastic bins like you have & I could tell my pullets didn't like them, so I pulled them out & put in more shavings. I also gently placed the 2 I thought were ready to lay in the nesting box. They didn't stay of course, but they kept going up & looking in. You might try taking the bins out temporarily. I also had someone laying in the poop tray. Ewww. She laid 2 in the poop tray & finally 1 in the nesting box. Mine just turned 19 weeks old today. Taking the bins out might help. Good luck.

You have a nice clean setup. The only thing I would try is...... remove those tubs and place some hay directly into the boxes. Make a nest shape impression.. Place your chickens into the nest so they can get the feel of it. Remove those stupid golf balls and place some real eggs. And as to the lid,, raise it slightly so the chickens will not have to struggle to enter. Chickens do like the feel of semi privacy when laying an egg. Kind of like people when ,, well you know what...

WISHING YOU BEST
