nesting box questions

they are rock chickens??? I dont know they are very very cute little girls!! maybe this is a stupid question... what is a roost pole????

Plymouth Rocks do very well through the winter.

A roost pole is another word for roosts, which is what they perch on overnight in the coop.

they dont curl up on the floor??? I dont have one of those poles in my coop... do I need one??

Ummm, So i was reading about everyones comments on the nesting boxes and i think i have a problem. This is my first year with chickens also and ummm i think i messed up. I was wondering if straw would be fine to but just never asked and my chickens are free range when im with them which is most of the day. So here are mine. Sorry btw amydzek dont mean to steal your post.

A 2x4 laid wide side up works great also. Chickens stand flat footed and they do't really need round roosts. All though a round roost will not hurt them.​

ok I tried to make one out of a milk crate but I thought it was too small so I highjacked a recycle bin!! When do I need to put it in the coop?? right away or once they start to lay?
