Designed my 4x4 coop with the nest boxes "Inside" the coop. I've come to the conclusion that that just takes up too much floor space and I'm going to attach the nest box/s to the side instead. Can 4 large foul share one nest box or should I go with my original plan of 2? The nest boxes I made are 12x12x12. Think I should go larger? 14x14x14 overkill?

thanks

What kind of breed are they? I would never just have one nest box
. My opinion of coarse.

Why do you say you would never have just one? I have been reading that 3-6 hens will share one box. Not true?
It is true in general but I have always had skirmishes with just one. Added only one more for 4 hens and never had a problem again. Now I have seven in that coop and still no problems with just 2.

I have production reds and their nests are about 14x14. I always say the darker the better too. I too had to move my nests in my first coop. They were stepping on eggs and breaking them and it wasnt dark enough in there.Let alone that gave me almost 4 extra quare feet of space. The only time I put nests on the floor anymore is for silkies. Only because they dont jump or fly much at all.

Good advice Josh. I'll make a box with two 14x14x14 nests.

Now I just have to figure out how to "attach" the thing to the side of my coop!

Do you have any pics of this box and the side of your coop?
