nesting box

My chickens are very picky about nesting boxes and they use their baby chicken coop and I am going to need it soon. My chickens like their nesting boxes to have roofs. I don't want to buy a nesting box because me and my dad make them. I can't use cardboard boxes because they aren't strong enough. What could I use?

When you make the bucket box, you have to just brace it on either side so it doesn't wiggle too much. Mine are screwed down to a board with bricks on either side to stabilize. Although I think if they were simply sitting in the sand on the floor, my hens would still use them.

Why not just build more nests for what I assume is another coop?

Oh no I used a tiny coop that was 80$ when the chickens were baby's that was fox proof. But as they grew up we had to give them a bigger coop. And now they use that tiny coop to lay eggs. But I am getting some more chickens in march and I will need it back.
