Have had guineas for years off and on , but have always had problems finding eggs or nests ( they free range with chickens during day go in at nite , if one doesn't it usually has a nest) , if one doesn't go in it has a nest, search and pick up some eggs to put in incubator if I don't about time too hatch the snakes seem to get the eggs.......was wondering if anyone has had luck with a certain type nesting box , ie: a box with a small hole for the opening.....they roost up high , but most nests are on the ground.....would a deep box on ground work?....I'm thinking of a nest approx 12 in. wide ..16 in. high ..and about 4 ft deep (nest area towards the back) put this against wall in chick pen to see if they would use this.......has anyone had luck with ANY type box?.....I don't want to cage them up , cause I'd have to build another chick pen........just asking for any ideas......
I got some big shipping containers ( free ) so thought would break down and try different nest boxes , have built regular one side open nests , building reg. size with a hole type opening , and thought about the narrow but deep type to see if that might be better. when they nest in the barn , they always go deep between big bales of hay and nest in the back. Any ideas or help or suggestions gratefully accepted.....Thanks....Rick
