Nest boxes
In my nest boxes I fold a feed bag to fit (nest boxes are 1 ft³). When a bag gets soiled; fold a new one; pop out the soiled; pop in the new. Feed bags are a nylon mesh bag.
Frozen poop just peels off in below freezing temperatures and just flakes off in summer when left out in the sun to bake and dry.

"I have 65 trips around the sun it is the best method I have stumbled upon."

Make sure the twine is removed from the open end of the bag it can get tangled around your birds.

I use sand with a small amt of DE mixed in , but mine were raised on sand - It is the floor covering in coop and run. I tried pine shavings, they ate it. I tried shredded newspaper, they ate it. I bought those plastic grass like nest box "cushions", they didn't like them. So finally just used sand. I keep a "sifter" on a hook outside the nests and just sift the sand to remove poops and feathers - one of those "reptile sifters" from a pet shop. And replenish the sand as needed.

I use regular straw hay from my local ace hardware. It's cheap and the chickens love it. They make perfect little nest with it

As you can see, we use about anything under the sun. There is no one right answer to this. Other things I’ve heard about is hay, Spanish moss, rags, and carpet. Every winter I collect long grass that has died and dried, usually around the base of my fruit trees, and store that for use.

What I suggest is that you find something relatively low cost and convenient, then try it. If you don’t like it try something else.

It will be interesting to see what others come up with.

Good advice.

I don't recall the thread but someone recently posted that their hens loved blankets and fabrics when they were in the house. So she was getting thrift store items with the hen's favorite material and making nest liners and they love it. But, she planned to wash and reuse..don't think I would want to wash those :)
