So, I like things to be neat and in their place in the coops i have, but i am going to be building new coops and i still want it to be neat-looking inside. I was wondering if any of your ducks nest in boxes? I like the idea of having designated areas for the girls to nest/lay eggs in, BUT will they use them??

I can make them on the floor to better suit them.

I have some like this but theyre Solid, double boxes, i can change the design to be set on the floor though.

I made a large nest box for my trio in their little house, it has access from the outside for egg collection (they aren't laying yet, they're 15 weeks now) and they sleep in it

Theres no hay in it, but they still sleep in it LOL

I don't know. Mine like to dig down deep, into the mud (under about six inches of straw), for laying their eggs. I think they keep them cooler that way, but it also gets them muddy. Sigh. Mine don't like to lay indoors at all, although occasionally they will dig their nests in the duck house, always near the door, almost never in the "designated" nesting area.

I think if you like things neat & in their place, ducks may not be the bird for you.

They're pretty messy and haphazard. Or maybe that's just my ducks--they get it from their "mom" (me).

i just put up 3 plastic dog houses and put a bunch of straw in the bottom and the 3 girls that are laying have been laying in them every day. not to say that they will keep doing this. i keep taaking their eggs so i wouldnt be suprised if they find some where else soon.

One of my hens laid in a dog house but there was no floor in it so they were all sitting in a small dirt hole covered with hay and shavings. i hope they will, if not i saw some plans for duck nesting things outside.
