Hello all. This morning I had a chicken that did not come down from here roost. They are 19 week old red sex hens( have not started laying). I was able to grab her and bring her down with the others but she is not acting like herself and is separating herself from the flock. When I grabbed her, I did feel her crop was not emptied and did feel squishy. They have been out of their run for about an hour but the single chicken went back.

I did see that she has loose stools and was able to grab a pic of one. They are also yellow in color. The rest of the flock seems to be doing good and all share the same food and water. I have checked her around for mites and vent looks clean. I have tried feeding her wet crumble but no appetite. I massaged her crop and did get a few drops of nutridrench by mouth but not sure what the correct amount would be either.

Any idea what it could be?

I would not massage a liquidy squishy crop, since it can force liquid back up into the airway and cause choking. She could have something, such as a reproductive disorder, infection, worms, or other problem causing her crop to slow way down. Her dropping has a lot of urates and mucus in her poop. Make sure to dip her beak into water often. Try again later with the mushy chicken feed and soft egg. Does she get mostly a balanced chicken feed and get crushed oyster shell for calcium and poultry grit to help her gizzard grind up feed? Check her crop first thing again in the morning to see if it has emptied. NutriDrench dosage is 1 ml for every 3 pounds of weight given orally daily for just a couple of days.

They have been on purina unmedicated starter crumble since about 6 weeks and waiting for them to finish this bag before moving to layer feed ( if you have any recommendations here). They have a grit station and I also let them out for an hour or two daily. I have not given calcium just yet and was waiting to see a first egg. I can provide oyster shell if needed tomorrow morning.

I checked back on them and she is laying down in one of the corners of the run. She did have her eyes closed when I first approached. I will attempt giving her eggs later today and report back tomorrow morning regarding her crop.

You could try giving a human calcium with d orally, just in case she is having trouble with her first egg. They only need oyster shell around 20 weeks when they start laying, so you could put some out.

I was able to get them crushed oyster shell and made sure they had a few pieces before dark. She ate a bit of wet food but did not get a chance to give her human calcium or the egg. She did perk up a bit but still takes breaks and lays down a few minutes before going back. Her poop is still diarrhea like but now noticed they are green. Reading other threads, this does not look good. I have scheduled a vet check tomorrow morning.
