Nesting Boxes/NOT BEDS!

The prefab coop has very low roosts only inches away from the nesting boxes, so I will definitely be adding more/higher ones to my custom build.

They definitely feel more secure on high perches. Having the perches higher than the nest box will discourage them from the box and encourage them to the highest point.
I have 100% free birds as well. They feel secure sleeping high and deep in a tree. The natural instinct way. BIRDS EYE VIEW OF DANGER BELOW..

Is there a way to make nesting boxes so that chickens don't want to sleep in them

I have 68 trips around the sun for decades I have been raising chickens
For years I have been lining my nest boxes with the folded empty nylon mesh feed bags.

Chickens at the bottom of the pecking order inhabit the nest boxes

When a bag gets soiled pop out the soiled and pop in another. Poop just peels off in below freezing temperatures and just flakes off when left out in the sun to bake and dry. It is the best method I have stumbled upon in my 68 trips around the sun.

Oh! Remove the excess string from the open end of the bag it can get tangled in your birds legs and wings.
