Would putting something like a curtain, over the opening, help make the nests feel more secure or would it just make it hot in there?

Where your at that could turn it into a oven and again like arrt said it would be more
for you than the birds... have you built a coop yet?

Quote: there are many options that you can buy premade many of them will not hold
as many birds that most try to say.. pages on here of coops can give you plans or
ideas to build yours and very easy to find

Curtains can make them feel safer...but I've found them unnecessary and kind of silly....they can also create safety issues with loose threads or tangled claws.
My nests have round openings which I believe provides some 'cover' and as well as keeping the bedding inside.
They have back door access which I prop open and inch or so to provide some ventilation when it's hot.
You'll definitely want to be able to ventilate them somehow.
