Me and my friend are building nesting boxes for our hens and he wanted to put the box in the little run we have for them and im not so sure about having it there instead of inside the coop. Please give me some feedback I just want to know if this is OK for my hens. Here's where we're putting the boxes. The outline in the dirt is where the boxes are being put.https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4VlUGJ1z7hhM0k0TzFpV05NV2M/edit?usp=docslist_api

In my opinion, nesting boxes should be kept IN THE COOP (the house) first, there's more shade so they feel calm, also i think its cleaner if its in the coop rather than dirt getting on the eggs and the nest in the run.

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. I agree with SuperLuke. Hens like to lay their eggs in dark places away from bright light so I would suggest putting the nesting boxes in the darkest corner of the coop away from the door and any windows. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your nesting boxes.

Have the nest boxes inside the coop, it's just another layer of protection from predators.
