We use pine bedding like for guinea pigs and rabbits. We've tried hay but i think the type we got was to rough for them. Our girls ended up sharing the one nesting box with the last of the pine. The big package of pine bedding only costs us $7 and it lasts us a while but we only have 4 nesting boxes.
