Nesting boxes

I have 13 chickens. How many nesting boxes do i need? I built 7 .

usually 1 nesting box to every 4 hens is a good ratio.



I have thirty or so hens and four nesting boxes that get used- three currently because a broody has currently taken possession of one I have some other nesting boxes as well but they don't use them.

I currently have 1 box for every hen. I have 8 hens - 5 silkies and 3 modern game. Only 2 boxes have been used. They seem to like to pile into a single box until there's no more room.

Your good to go. Most recommend 1 box for 3 to 4 girls. If you have a high production chicken like a sex-links type, like I have, I recommend 1 box for every 2 girls. Many times I find a hen waiting for a nest box, because both boxes are occupied. I have 5 Golden Comets and most lay before 9 a.m. GC
