Nesting Boxes

So I put the slanted roof on the nesting boxes, and this is what I came out to tonight. Are they just too young to want to roost, so they’re sleeping in a safe place, or is my latter not a sufficient roosting place? They are 11 weeks old. Silly chickens!

They roost even when they are babies, so probably they didn't find some good roosting spot yet...according to them, at least!

Here’s what I did. I bought the ladder for the coop for pretty cheap, so I’m going to keep it in here as a “play ground”. But to replace the roost I found some pieces of 2x4 so I hung them staggered in the corner of the coop. I didn’t lower the nesting boxes cause they already have no problem at all getting into them, I just put the top roost higher than the nesting boxes and long enough for all 5 chickies to stand side by side on. And I put a “cover” on the nesting boxes that is on a hinge (of zip ties) and can be tied up. Hope this works

:woot:yaWow! Girl that’s awesome :plbbfrom what I can tell it looks like three individual boxes right? (devideders in in between) an excellent slope roof so no roostie no poopie top (lol) staggered roosting perches :thumbsup
Are you going to put anything in front of the nesting boxes for them to hop up on?
You’ve really done a great job. You’ve really been at it. HUGH improvement from just yesterday!!!

Yep it’s three boxes. I may put more private dividers between them in the future if they seem to want it.
I might put something for them to hop up on if they seem to need it but as of right now get have no problem getting in and out of the boxes.
Thanks!!! I like to stay busy :wee

I really appreciate everyone’s feedback, I’m so thankful for this forum. It’s enabled me to dive deep into the world of back yard chickens with less fear because I know I have resources :)

That’s what I was thinking if they (boxes) had sides for privacy you could forgo putting curtains. I have a friend who shredded fabric,
Like fringe and hot glued it across the tops of her boxes.
Possibilities are endless. You Really ARE doing a good job.
I’m addicted!! Gotta find a AA meeting (for chickens):lau
