How far away in front the nest box should the perch be?

If you are talking about the sleeping perch, I'd say at least a foot, so their back ends won't hang over the nest box and get it poopy.

I did learn something about nest boxes and perches in here...I had mine about a foot away, but mine were even with the nest boxes coming off at an angle...well my chickens were roosting in the nest boxes because the perches were even with them...

I had to come in here and learn how to break them of it, and now they lay in them...they didnt at first. I was told to make the perches higher than the nest boxes...hope this helps.

My nesting boxes are about 2ft off the floor. Our birds totally ignore any roost perches, and roost on the rafters.
