nesting boxes

should they be enclosed on 3 sides...like the top and 3 sides? or is leaving the "roof" off the nesting boxes ok?

They really should have a sloped roof because otherwise they will roost on top of the nest box and poo all over the nest. We had these for awhile and learned the hard way...

Later after having to clean the nests out constantly we put on a sloped roof:

Make sure the roof is high enough for the hen to stand up when she lays.
