nesting boxes

Is 4 ft to far off the ground for nesting boxes

Probably. "They" say 18 in off the ground and then the roosts need to be higher than the nest boxes. If you put the nest boxes 4 fr off the ground, how high would your roosts be??

I would say yes. Nesting boxes are better located closer to the ground. Some people even have them on the ground.

Roosts should be higher than your nest boxes or your chickens will sleep in the nest boxes and then you'll have poopy eggs.

well i built an 8ft by 8ft tree fort 6ft off the ground and the bottom 6ft is where I'm building a chicken coop and that's where it all went wrong. its not as bad as i thought i just had to move the nests boxes down inside the roosting area. wish i knew how to post some pics. though.

I have my nest boxes right on the floor. Never poop in the straw and always clean eggs.
