Nesting broody duck in EXTREME heat

The 5 babies that hatched are doing great! They are running around with their momma inside the small enclosure within our duck pen. I'm not quite ready to let them out into the run with the other hens and the drake, but they are all getting to know each other through the hardware cloth walls!

The other two eggs didn't make it :-( I stopped seeing movement after a number of hours in my makeshift incubator, so I opened small holes to see inside and there was a lot of blood. I assume it just wasn't meant to be.

I’m so glad that the five little ducklings are doing good! That’s great! Good luck with your little ones! I’d love to see pictures sometime!
I’m sorry about the other two eggs. You’re right it probably wasn’t meant to be. :hugs:(

The two little guys in the separate tub are the boys and they are going to a new loving home tomorrow. The three little girls will stay here with mom

We already have one drake who is clearly THE BOSS in our run, so I did my very best to vent sex them and re-home the obvious boys. I am pretty confident I identified the girls correctly, but if we end up with a little hidden penis, then we might just have to build a "man cave"/ time-out pen come spring! :fl
