Hiya fellow feather collectors!

So I intend to let a hen sit on eggs once they are established layers. I'll have a small enclosed are for a "nursery" if you will. What would be good material for a mother to sit and incubate some offspring? I heard long thick astroturf is good and easy to clean for just your nesting/collecting boxes. But what about a broody hen? Also do Barnevelders and or speckled sussex bo broody? If at all?

Ty for your time
Ryan.

I use shavings, and sometimes hay. The best I've found is to shape the bowl of the nest with a ring of hay than pad the center with shavings. I have a couple of barnevelder hens. The majority go broody on a regular basis. A few don't. My speckled Sussex hasn't gone broody, nor the one other one I had didn't either.
