Nests

My girls who were hatched in March sometime have no interest in the nesting boxes. Is this normal? Will they get intersted when the start to lay?

Our's didn't show interest in the nest boxes either, but we kept golf balls in the nests and somehow their little brains figured out what the boxes were for and both girls laid their first eggs exactly where they were supposed too.

Couldn't believe it went so smoothly. Of course, Rosie laid her 2nd egg in a ceramic planter out behind the coop. You can't win them all

My girls started laying around 5 months of age, some didnt start until almost 7 months of age...so I would think pretty soon they will figure out they need a place to do their business and will be checking out the boxes so they can start leaving you little gifts each day..

try putting some wooden eggs in just one nest, like a little clutch of them...or golf balls...they will be curious if they see something new in there that wasnt there before, if they were hatched in March sometime, that means they are just getting to the age they would start to lay right now, so I would think very soon they will be showing some interest...what kind are they? Some start later then others...they will start to lay eventually though...

I have put fake eggs in there already. I have a BA, EE, RIR, Buttercup/gamehen mix, BR, and a few other mixes. My BA is very anxious today. Singing her song and going in and out of the coop. Digging a nest in one corner. She just can sit still. I think it will be soon!

I can hope.

Sounds promising!!! You will have to post pics of your first eggs so we can all see...love to ooh and ahh over such things...

Wow - good job (not you, the chicken!!!!!) I know you were waiting, finally you have an egg. Soon there will be many more!!!!

Now if any of my girls would step uo to the plate..........
