Bird deer soccer or to weave or own wire? Suggestions or comments please. Cant wait to get it done so the girls can go outside!

I've got the deer/bird netting going over my run today. All I can say so far is that its a pain to work with because it tangles/gets stuck to itself easily. I'll let you know how it turns out though.

Thanks would greatly appreciate. Worried about snow load to. Don't want to have to do it every spring!

I tried bird netting on my run. I have since taken it down. I got tired of having to cut the netting to release wild birds caught in it and twice came home from a weekend away to find dead birds entangled in it,

I still want a cover on my run, but this did not work for me.

I used corrugated steel. I'm not sure what your run size is, but we started out with welded wire. We cut that off, gave it to the neighbor and put a roof on. I cover my run in the winter and they have so much more room all year long.

I bought aviary netting after trying dear netting. Dear netting is horrible stuff that caught on everything and I found it to be very weak too.

I really love this netting as it is very strong, made of plastic and is light and easy to work with. I got 25' x 50' (way more that I needed!) for about $100.00 and so worth the price many times over. No hawk deaths since we put this up in February. I couldn't be happier with it.

I used some left over field fencing with some zip strips to attach it. Small birds can get in but dont, hawks (we have a breeding pair on the property) dont attempt it. and the spacing is small enough to keep out raccoons.

Just got done and it was much easier than anticipated. We used scrap strips of wood to staple the netting to the fence, overlapped the netting, and secured together with zip ties. Took roughly 2 hours for a 16X24 run and just went up and over the coop.

I don't think there's much to worry about with snow, the net is so thin, I don't think it would stick unless it was a heavy packing snow coming down fast but we'll see in a few months..

I would've rather used the welded wire but with a 16X24 run it would've been too expensive; I only spent $15 on the netting. Even if I have to redo it every year or two it'd take forever to add up to all the wood needed to support the welded wire. I'm just hoping we don't catch a lot of birds in it because then we'll have to use something else.

Our run is 10 x 30 and like I said we used left over pieces . To support it in the middle, my husband scrounged some tree branches or slender trunks and pushed them into the ground enough to keep them from slipping and up to a cross section of the fencing. It is crude, but I am in the middle of the country and lost my job last year, so we save money where we can.

That would be nice; to be able to make things work from scrap. We bought our house a year ago so we don't have any scrap yet, this is our first project, anything we need we have to buy

I can't wait for our scrap pile to build up but if DH has anytrhing to say about it he'll burn it all, he wasn't raised like me. I could've built a whole coop out of my dad's scrap pile lol. After TSC's chick days, even CL is scrap free from everyone needing a coop last minute lol.

I hear you on saving money, our chickens are courtesy of our tax return. Rather than put all of it into the house, we invested some in breakfast, lunch, and dinner just in case things take a turn for the worse lol.
