This was my chickens first time this far out in the yard. If you look at my first post with my chickens out in the yard there is 4 now there is three, thats because on sunday night a snake got in the coop and killed one of my birds:mad:. So now i am either going to get one rhode island red or a brown leghorn until the big coop and run are built than i want to get a few of each. The whole snake deal made me really mad so me and my dad made a post for one of the other coops i had from when i had qual and put it on top of that. The chickens are now safe from snakes and all other critters that pose a threat. But back to the chickens being out in the yard, they seem to really enjoy it the hardest part is getting them out of the coop and getting them back in but other than that they seem to have a really good time. One question, when do chickens start taking dust baths?

It does look like they were having a good time! Most birds love free range time. Getting them back in the coop when you want is a bit tricky. It's better if you can just wait until dusk, when they will go in on their own. You can also try bribing them with a treat, like scratch.

As for the dustbathing - I've had chicks start in week one, fluffing around in the wood shavings in the brooder. Some may take longer - but they will get there!
