never before broody hen whom just started laying may be adopting chicks!!

Thanks everyone. I am keeping her and the chicks inside the house for a couple more days together just to be sure. Next I'm not too sure but I'm not letting other chickens get to them at first without introductions. I have a couple good size cages I can move inside the main coop or I can put a partition wall I made up that will separate my coop by wire and wood so they can see each other. It just snowed and we have a few inches of ice right now(17 degrees last night) and I dont want to put the babies out in that initially. So I have a big brooder. I use it for chicks once I move them outside when they get some feathers. It has heat lamp and blocks the wind well. Plus its adequate for momma. So I'm thinking big brooder until it warms up a touch and then to the coop but segregated

sounds perfect! We’ve had a broody adopt a few batches of chicks- usually around 8 chicks at a time. I’m also of the thought to let chicks grow a bit (get faster/stronger/ and listen to momma really well) before going around the rest of the flock - so 1-2 weeks approximately. But, my set up is a 6’x3’ brooder in the barn, connected to the run via a pop door. I can section off an area with moveable fencing so mom can freely take chicks in and out. It works well. In your situation, you can monitor mom and babies for a few days, and the weather can warm back up - it sure is cold here this morning!!
