My 4 brown leghorn hens that I got a while back are all laying fine now . I get 2 eggs one day , one the next and then 1 the next . Then it starts all over again . I think that is about right ..? The only problem that I have now is my 1 1/2 yr old RIR hen . Ive had her since she was a chick and only recieved 2 eggs from her last fall . Zero since , whats up with that? Does she need to go in the crock pot? Anybody have any info for me ....Thanks!

Well i have at least 2 that are like your RIR. A friend told me to press three fingers against her pubic bone (hold her against you with her butt out and press your fingers against where the egg comes out. If you can't get the fingers past the bone, she isn't gonna lay good. I went around with my 19 hens and did what he said and sure enough, the bone doesn't obstruct the ones I know are laying...the ones that are not.... all bone.

I have a rir that I think is a slacker but she is only 7 months old and I am not ready to give up on her just yet. Of course, even if she doesn't lay I don't think I can send her to the cockpot spa! If that was the case, my rooster would have been supper weeks ago.

I have a Danish Brown Leghorn that I'm pretty sure has never laid an egg...and she's a little over a year old now. I have 2 Danish Brown, and I only get about 4-5 white eggs a week...I'm almost positive they're all from the same girl and the other is just a slacker. A non-laying Leghorn...can you believe it? But she is safe and sound here...no crockpot for her.

Thanks for the info , but before I had a chance to check her out she gave me a nice med sized egg today . Brown with white specks on it . Dont know what they are , but it looked fine . We will if she lays more with the specks on them .....
