A few weeks ago I posted about the MANY issues that I have had with my chickens and that I had taken 3 to Texas A&M to be necropsied.
I'm still at a loss.
I have wormed them (the Safe-guard AuquaSol is $300 at my vet 🙄 and I now have enough to last about 10 years).
I have had to put 9 down in 2 days. I noticed that my 2 roosters sounded off BUT they were NOT sneezing, no eye bubbles, no diarrhea... They didn't seem to be eating as much and their crows sounded "hoarse" for lack of a better word. I separated them ASAP (and now I am praying it was soon enough because I have lost around 60% of my flock). Last night, before I culled them, I noticed that they had lost a significant amount of weight. Ughhhh. The vet told me that iIF it was AVL (he wasn't sure, that was a nice $600 spent to have a MAYBE diagnosis) that although it can spread it is not as easily spread as Mereks, Mycoplasma and other diseases.
I have done a TOTAL coop clean out on both coops and ordered a coop disinfectant (that can also be used in waterers and fogged for chickens respiratory health but I can't recall the name of the product). I will wait to put bedding back in until after I have sanitized both coops.
*I also chose to cull 2 hens last night because they seemed off and I absolutely cannot afford to risk it unfortunately. I noticed that one had ruffed feathers and wasn't really foraging much. The other one seemed a little gurgly but again, not mucus, no coughing, no sneezing. I hated putting her down but I am absolutely being cautious at this point.
Anyway, when the vet at A&M called he said it was NOT Mereks but could have been AVL. I am attaching the reports to see what you all think and if I should just cull the flock (this will be the 2nd time I have had to start all over, 1st time was due to mycoplasma) or just keep an eye out and remove any that begin to show symptoms of ANYTHING!!!!

I attached two sets of the same report just in case one is easier to read than the other.
Does anyone have any insight????

The report says lots of worms, coccidia and leukosis.

I would cull the flock if it were mine.
The vet said to worm them, feed them a high quality feed without calcium (he suspected the rooster had too much calcium) and keep an eye on them.
I would be culling around $1500 worth of show birds 😭

I have already had to restart my flock once. I cannot afford to do it again. I will have to just walk away at this point.

Avian leukosis can be spread horizontal (through contact and dander) so you can't show them anymore and spread vertically (through the egg) so you can't sell hatching eggs or chicks.
I'm so sorry.

I haven't been able to since my first one died in May.
The issue is that out of 4 necropsied only one showed possible AVL.

I am absolutely being cautious, don't get me wrong, but I really hate to cull the flock on a POSSIBLE diagnosis. If he has said it is AVL, yes.

I spoke to him over the phone and he never mentioned culling the flock.
Also, I have NO clue how they would have gotten AVL.

I do NOT buy from backyard breeders and all of my birds have come from NPIP farms/hatcheries or people who show birds.

I don't know what to do at this point.

NPIP does not mean disease free. There are a lot of people who show diseased birds either knowingly or unknowingly.

Probably pretty much means he had it.
